BRAND NEW SNIPPET from somewhere in the book…

“Grab your go-bag. I don’t know when we will make it back. This body is fresh. A fisherman found it downstream a couple miles from the plantation house this morning.” Girard barked the order while grabbing his belongings.

“Hurry up, the fresher the scene the better we can determine the when, what and how.”

He walked off down the hall leaving Sara standing in her room. She sighed heavily. Finding and quickly checking the contents of her go-bag, she headed out the door after him. We didn’t even have coffee. Today’s going to suck.

COMING IN 2026……

CHAPTER ONE

The body hung upside down, right on the front porch. The throat had been cut and blood slowly dripped onto the old weathered gray floor. The puddle had dried long ago, with only the most recent droplets now moist. A trail of it made a thin stream over the front of the porch and down the steps, indicating the body bled out slowly.

Flies were abundant. The body had been there quite some time before Sara arrived on the scene.

She stood in front of the house in the sweltering heat as she viewed what was once a living thing. She observed from a distance, waiting and watching as crime scene investigators did their thing.

The driveway into the property had been more like two worn paths in the dirt with weeds growing between the tracts. The surrounding area was now littered with black government issued SUVs with tinted windows, silently advertising a major criminal event happened here.

A dark, mysterious swamp scene with a woman standing by the water, surrounded by candles, symbols, and hanging moss. The sky appears at sunset or sunrise, creating a mystical atmosphere for the book cover of 'Sorcery by Entrails' by G.B. Cook.

ANOTHER PEEK INTO THE BOOK:

“Stop!” Girard insisted in a loud whispering command, but it was too late. The tree snapped apart, dumping Sara into the river with a loud splash. This startled a few gators that they hadn’t seen nearby, and they scattered beneath the water.

Sara scrambled to pull herself back into the boat. It rocked back and forth violently as she awkwardly pulled herself out of the water. Her heart was racing in her chest. Her mind screamed at her, get out of the water!

A SAMPLE OF LEE FOR YOU:

Sara! Sara! Are you okay?” Kimball shouted into the phone. The line was still connected, but she didn’t respond.

He paced around the art studio, waiting for payment for the picture he was selling. All he could do was stay on the line, hoping she picked up.

He could hear voices in the background now. They were deciding what to do with her. Kimball remained silent, hoping to hear details of what they were doing, who they were, and where they might take her, hoping she was still alive, just unconscious.

“Abe, grab her feet. We’re taking her out the back entrance once we get her to the ground floor. Who knows if she has people watching this building, too.”

Kimball heard some mumbling, then a door slammed and all was quiet. They took her! Oh my God. What am I going to do? I don’t have a line to Girard!

Kimball grabbed the cash from the art dealer’s hands and ran out the door.

“Your receipt, sir!” the man called after him, but it was too late. Kimball was on a mission. He had to find Sara. He loved her, more now in this moment than he realized before.

He knew he was jeopardizing the assignment, but he had to go to her new apartment above Abe’s gym. Nothing was going to stop him.

He flew out of the parking lot and across town to her building. He parked right in front of the place, he didn’t care. Jumping out, he ran in the door and up the three flights of stairs to her apartment.

He hesitated a second with his hand on the knob, afraid of what he might find inside.

But wait! There’s more! Keep scrolling!

SEE INSIDE:

Glancing down at her watch, she was surprised how much time had passed in the building.

“I’m sorry, I’ve lost track of time. I need to find my hotel and get checked in.”

“Where are you staying?”

“I’m at the Hilton over in Glenallen.”

“I would love to continue our talk later if you're up to it. Would you like to grab dinner with me tonight? I can take you to one of my favorite places, so you get to experience the best that the area has to offer.”

“Yes, I would love that,” she replied, feeling her cheeks start to turn red. Stop it! Just stop it! Oh my God. Just stop blushing already!!

He pretended not to notice as they walked to the parking lot together.

“I’ll pick you up at seven.”

“Great, see you then.”

Cali hopped into her SUV and watched him walk away from the rearview mirror. He was tall and well built. Even with the sweatshirt on, she could see the outlines of his well-defined muscle. Hmmm. This is going to be fun!

She drove off looking forward to her dinner date, and spending more time with Jed. It had been a long time since she felt so comfortable with someone she just met. She hesitated for a moment, realizing he is a complete stranger, but the feeling of unease quickly vanished. I’ll be fine. She shook the uneasy thoughts out of her head and drove off to find her hotel.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Person with glasses and shoulder-length hair, indoors with wooden background.

G. B. Cook is the author of the Detective Sara Ponte series including Beyond the Shack, LEE: The One That Got Away and Sorcery by Entrails, A Murder Mystery in the Deep South.

With a suspicious mind and a knack for uncovering darkness in ordinary moments, Cook turns everyday details into clues that twist into unforgettable crimes and romantic entanglements.

Some writers see stories. G.B. Cook sees evidence. In her creative mind, a simple button on the office floor isn’t just a button—it’s a listening device, a silent witness, or the start of a story that refuses to stay hidden. Nothing escapes her eye—not even the lies people tell themselves.

Her novels are crime drama thrillers with graphic crime scenes. Complications arise from the messy and morally gray choices her detective chooses to make. She weaves in lies and deception, love triangles and more.

Be sure to watch for new releases from this much talked about author. You can find her on you-tube at @G.B. Cook, Author or @G.B. Cook’s Detective Sara Ponte channel where book trailers and bits of enticing content are found.

The Haunting of Ponte is her current work in progress to be released in late 2026, and Girard coming in 2027.
